Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Our culture is the difference

Health, safety and wellbeing. Putting people first.

Glencar Construction has a strong safety culture that is embedded in everything we do. We believe that safety is not just a set of rules and procedures, but a way of life. Our safety culture starts at the top, with senior management leading by example and demonstrating a strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, and anyone who comes into contact with our projects. We believe that everyone has the right to return home safely to their families at the end of each day, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that this happens.

Expect Nothing Less

The Gold Standard is a rigorous assessment of our health and safety practices, environmental policies, and corporate social responsibility efforts.

Glencar ‘s Gold Standard programme reflects our commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and ethical business practices.

The company’s Gold Standard certification systems is a testament to our dedication to creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for our customers, employees, supply chain and the communities we serve.

What behaviours are ‘Gold Standard’?

The three health & safety pillars:
/01

Listen

Always taking in what’s around us. Being aware of what is required and what we could do better, or more proactively, to keep everyone safe.

/02

Talk

Communication is key. Our people learn, share and continue to engage everyone around us. We learn lessons and talk to each other about what we know.

/03

Act

After we learn, we act. We take minimal or major action, whatever is necessary to remove risk or improve safety from a knowledgeable position.

Going further with safety and wellbeing

Below are a selection of key focal areas that we have invested in, to ensure a safe and high quality delivery, every time:

Harnessing data for safer outcomes with Inndex

Glencar Construction places a high priority on health and safety, and we continually monitor our safety performance using Inndex software. Inndex is an industry-leading safety platform that provides real-time data and analytics on our safety performance. It allows us to track safety performance metrics such as incidents, near-misses, and safety observations, and identify potential safety risks and hazards.

The data from Inndex shows that we have s a strong safety performance record. We have consistently achieved safety performance metrics that are significantly better than industry benchmarks. For example, in the past year, we have achieved an incident rate of less than 0.1 per 100,000 hours worked, which is well below the industry average and HSE targets.

Wellbeing & Health Surveillance

Workplace health and mental wellbeing are high on the agenda at Glencar and we work hard to foster a supportive culture and give all colleagues the tools and training that they need in order to thrive.

We have trained several Mental Health First Aiders and mental health support is available as part of our benefits package. All team members can also access an individual health check, nutrition consultation, personalised fitness programme, expert health case management and private healthcare.

H&S health audits are carried out on a weekly basis by site supervisors in addition to daily checks, with results shared as part of a weekly project update to the project team and client.

Considerate Construction

All of our sites are registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme under which they are independently audited against several key criteria which include safety and the creation of a pleasant working environment.

Our ongoing commitment to the highest standards of health and safety is evidenced by our outstanding AFR and AIFR scores achieved annually.

“At Glencar, safety and wellbeing are not just a box-ticking exercise; they are part of our DNA. We believe that a safe and healthy working environment is not only the right thing to do but also essential for the long-term success of our business. We are committed safety and wellbeing, and we will not rest until everything we do on site and off-site reaches our Gold Standard programme targets.”
