The things that make us do more

Glencar is committed to creating social value through our business operations. We believe that by creating social value, we can help to build stronger, more resilient communities, and contribute to a sustainable future.

Our site teams and ESG leaders use a social value calculator to measure the social impact of our construction projects. This calculator is a tool that helps us to understand the social benefits and costs of our projects, and to identify opportunities to create additional social value.

The social value calculator takes into account a range of factors, including job creation, local procurement, community engagement, and environmental sustainability. By quantifying these factors and assigning them a monetary value, we are able to measure the social impact of our projects in a meaningful way.

Employment & Skills

Our employment practices are a critical aspect of delivering social value. We prioritise the recruitment and training of local people, and we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce.

One way that we deliver social value is by creating job opportunities for local people. We work closely with local employment agencies and community organisations to identify potential candidates and provide them with the training and support they need to succeed.

In addition, we support apprenticeships and work experience placements, providing young people with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop the skills they need to succeed in the construction industry.

Procurement

We prioritise working with local suppliers and subcontractors, and we seek out suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

By focusing on local procurement, we are creating economic opportunities for small businesses and supporting the development of the local community. We work closely with local suppliers and subcontractors to understand their capabilities and to identify opportunities for collaboration. We also prioritise suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, ensuring that our procurement practices have a positive social and environmental impact.

We believe that responsible procurement practices help to create a more sustainable and resilient supply chain for the wider industry.

Community engagement and sustainable delivery

During the delivery stage of our projects, community engagement and consultation is paramount to successful outcomes. We work closely with local stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities, and we seek to build positive relationships with the local community. This approach ensures that our projects are designed and delivered in a way that meets the needs of the local community.

Another key aspect is environmental sustainability during construction. We seek to minimise the environmental impact of our activities by using sustainable materials and implementing environmentally-friendly practices. We also create long-term environmental benefits by incorporating sustainability features into the design of our buildings, such as green roofs, rainwater harvesting systems, and energy-efficient systems.

Charity and Fundraising

Giving back to the community is an essential aspect of our social responsibility. We are committed to supporting charitable causes and fundraising efforts, and we encourage our employees to get involved in charitable activities that are important to them.

We have a dedicated team that organises events and initiatives to support a range of charitable causes. These include sponsored runs and cycles, charity auctions, and other fundraising events. We also support our employees in their own fundraising efforts.

We also support a range of charitable causes through donations and partnerships. We work closely with a number of charities and community organizations to provide support and assistance to those in need. This includes donations of time, resources, and expertise, as well as financial contributions.

“Our commitment to communities goes beyond the construction of buildings. We are passionate about creating lasting impact, supporting local businesses, and create job opportunities for local people. We deliver projects that not only meet our customers’ needs but also benefit people across the UK.”
